The White House Project
The Challenge:
Electing a woman as President of the United States
Thinking Creatively:
In 1998 Barbara Lee the Philanthropist, Marie Wilson the Founder of Take our Daughters to Work Day and Laura Liswood head of the Council of Women World Leaders called me to ask how they could get a woman elected President of the United States. Research showed that to support the idea of a woman President Americans first had to visualize that there were actually many woman who could be President. I created a ballot of the Twenty Women Who Could be President, featured on the cover of Parade Magazine. Barbara Lee donated $500,000 to kick off this campaign. |
The Results:
The White House Project was launched with a goal of changing the culture in 10 years to see multiple women run for President. It funded new research into the obstacles facing women candidates and it built Run Vote Lead to motivate and train young women to consider running for public office.
