Illinois Network of Charter Schools
The Challenge:
Design and implement a campaign to lift the charter school cap in Illinois.
Thinking Creatively:
Using research that showed the affinity of Illinois voters to then candidate Barack Obama and their plurality support for charter schools I produced a viral video using Obama’s own words about education and turned it into a campaign strategy that was designed to take advantage of his election to the White House.
The Results:
Using a combination of inside the state house lobbying and newspaper ads challenging the teacher’s unions to “live up to their reform rhetoric” following Obama’s Inauguration a deal was cut to the lift the cap and in July 2009 Governor Quinn signed the Charter School Laws.
